In the 1700's the idea for the chauffeured vehicle was born. with the rich and wealthy in mind, it started with top of the line, hand crafted, horse drawn carriages pulled by only the finest of horses. From the French word Limoges the word limousine is derived.
The main feature that distinguishes from other vehicles is the separation of the driver from the client. the very first automotive powered limos were developed in 1902. And was designed with the driver on the outside under a covered compartment. the very first stretch limo  was born around 1928 in Arkansas. "BIG BUSES" is how they were commonly referred to, due to the fact that they generally transported big bands and orchestras around. In the 30's really became popular. high society patrons and celebrities began using them to go from hotels to the airports as well as sightseeing around the cities.
	As time went on, the popularity of limos grew. From actors to the President of the United States used them to get wherever the needed. These days limos are still used the transport the "well to do." But are also created to accommodate much larger groups of clients. And along with the no drink and drive policies created by governments across the world, which is that alcoholic beverages must be separated from the driver, the use of the limo has grown. And with the technology growing each day, the style and comfort of the limousine is second to none.
The movie industry immediately grabbed ahold of them when the popularity took off. they used limos to carry film crews and stage personnel though out the studios.  thus making very "IN" for actors and actresses to show up in a limo.
